Content Rules
Last updated: 2026-11-05
These rules say which photos you may upload to ShowMeme and what you may create with it. They are part of our Terms of Service.
1. Whose photos you may use
Use your own face, or the face of someone who said yes.
You may upload:
- photos of yourself;
- photos of other people who have agreed to be edited;
- ordinary photos of children, for example at a birthday party, on a playground or at the beach, if you are the child's parent or legal guardian or have their permission.
You may not upload:
- photos of other people without their consent, including photos taken from their social media;
- photos of public figures, such as politicians, celebrities or athletes, to make deepfakes of them;
- photos you have no right to use, such as a professional photo that belongs to someone else.
2. What we block automatically
Nudity, sex, any sexual context with a minor, bestiality, real gore, hate symbols and self-harm never get through.
Our moderation blocks every photo and result that shows:
- nudity: exposed genitals, female nipples or bare buttocks, also in paintings, drawings and cartoons;
- sexual content: sexual activity, sexual touching or a pose that presents the body sexually;
- a child or teenager in any nude, sexual or sexualised context;
- sexual content involving an animal;
- real graphic injuries, mutilation or dead bodies;
- hate symbols shown approvingly, such as the Nazi swastika, SS runes or Ku Klux Klan imagery;
- visible self-inflicted wounds.
These pass: children and teenagers in ordinary situations, swimwear at a beach or pool, shirtless men, kissing, horror costumes and make-up (vampires, zombies, skulls, fake blood), monsters, cartoon, comic and manga styles, and faces made older or younger.
3. What else is not allowed
Do not use ShowMeme to hurt, deceive or impersonate anyone.
Even when the filter lets an image through, you must not use ShowMeme to:
- show a real person in an intimate or sexual way without their consent;
- make deepfakes of public figures, or present a result as a real event, for example to spread false news or sway an election;
- impersonate someone, commit fraud or make fake identity documents;
- harass, bully, threaten or humiliate anyone, including by sharing an edited photo of them;
- attack people because of their ethnic origin, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or a similar trait;
- infringe someone else's copyright, trademark or privacy;
- remove the watermark or the AI metadata to mislead others;
- upload or create anything else that is illegal in Poland or in your country.
4. How automatic moderation works
An AI model checks every photo and every result against the list in section 2 before anything is made or shown.
- When you start an effect, our server sends your photo to a vision AI model, today Gemma 3 12B by Google, with Gemma 4 26B A4B as a backup, reached through OpenRouter. We use only model hosts that keep no copy of the image. The model reads our written policy, which matches section 2, and answers "allowed" or "blocked" with a category.
- If the photo is blocked, we do not make the effect and you see a message.
- When the effect is ready, the model checks the result the same way. A blocked result is discarded and never stored.
- If the moderation service does not answer, we do not make the effect. Blocked and failed attempts do not count towards your daily limit.
The filter does not know who is in a photo, and it can block a harmless photo or miss one that breaks the rules. When it blocks a photo or a result, the message on screen means that the automatic check found content listed in section 2. We do not keep blocked photos, so no person ever looks at them. You can still ask a person to review the decision by e-mail (section 6); the review relies on what you tell us. If the filter keeps blocking a kind of photo that these rules allow, tell us at [email protected] and we will adjust the policy.
5. How to report a result
Use the Report button on the result page, or write to us.
Anyone can report a result, including people who do not use ShowMeme:
- On the result page (showmeme.app/r/...), tap "Report", pick a reason (someone else's face, nudity, violence or other), describe the problem and, if you want an answer, give your e-mail address.
- By e-mail to [email protected].
A complete report (art. 16(2) of the Digital Services Act) contains:
- the link to the result;
- why you think the content is illegal or breaks these rules;
- your name and e-mail address, which you may leave out when you report child sexual abuse material;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the information in your report is accurate and complete.
If you appear in a result and did not agree to it, say so in the report. We remove such a result as soon as we have checked the report, at the latest within 48 hours.
6. What we do with a report
A person reviews every report and tells you the outcome, and the person affected can appeal.
- The form confirms on screen that we received your report. If you gave an e-mail address, or reported by e-mail, we also confirm by e-mail.
- A person reviews the report without undue delay. Software never decides on a report alone.
- If the result is illegal or breaks these rules, we delete it and its link. We may also block the studio for the browser, device or network address that created it.
- If you gave an e-mail address, we tell you what we decided and how you can challenge the decision.
- We give the person who made the result a statement of reasons (art. 17 of the Digital Services Act): what we decided, the facts behind it, how far and for how long the decision applies, whether automated tools were involved, the rule or law we relied on and how to appeal. Guest users have no account, so we can send it only when we have their contact details. Anyone can ask for it by e-mail, quoting the link of the result.
Both the person who reported and the person affected can appeal our decision by e-mail within 6 months. A person reviews the case again and answers within 14 days. You can also go to court or use the out-of-court options in section 16 of the Terms of Service. If you think we break the Digital Services Act, you can complain to the President of the Office of Electronic Communications (Prezes UKE), the Digital Services Coordinator in Poland.
We keep reports for 90 days (Privacy Policy).
7. Child sexual abuse material
We report child sexual abuse material to Dyżurnet.pl and the police.
When we find material showing the sexual abuse of a child, or receive a report about it, we remove it, secure the data the authorities need and report it to Dyżurnet.pl, the Polish hotline run by NASK, and to the police. If you come across such material anywhere online, do not download it, copy it or send it to us. Report it directly at dyzurnet.pl.
8. Cooperation with authorities
We work with authorities when the law requires it and whenever someone's life is at risk.
- If we learn of information that suggests a crime threatening someone's life or safety, we inform the police or the prosecutor's office at once (art. 18 of the Digital Services Act).
- We follow orders from courts and authorities to act against illegal content or to provide information (art. 9 and 10 of the Digital Services Act) and tell the person affected when the law allows.
- Authorities can reach us at [email protected], in Polish or English (art. 11 of the Digital Services Act).
